О фильме: В 1977-м году город Нью-Йорк бушевал. По мере приближения метрополиса к банкротству ночная жизнь города достигла беспрецедентных высот. В сверхэксклюзивный клуб Studio 54 битком набивались накокаиненные селебрити. В спартанской обстановке CBGB's панк-рокеры собирались, чтобы уничтожать все живое. А в то же время в консервативном районе Верхнего Вестсайда, в подвале престижного здания Ansonia открылось место под названием Plato's Retreat, куда зазывались обыкновенные парочки — чтобы потанцевать, поплавать... и поменяться партнерами. Так начиналась революция. Plato's Retreat, ставший плодом идей бывшего оптового поставщика мяса Ларри Левинсона, быстро превратился в эпицентр открытого секса для поколения "Я". Прежде свингерство по большей части было подпольным занятием для привлекательных и обеспеченных людей. Но в Plato's были рады видеть кого угодно, без каких-либо ограничений. Всего за 35 долларов парочки оставляли все возможные предубеждения на входе в этот "Диснейленд", где одежда была не обязательна. Банкиры отлично ладили с водителями автобусов, а кинозвезды предлагали секретаршам "особое, внимательное отношение". Для Левинсона и многих других Plato's стал утопией. А для кого-то этот клуб стал воспоминанием, от которого они избавились бы с великой радостью. Документальный фильм "Американские свингеры" с помощью уникальных архивных кадров и эксклюзивных интервью с бывшими владельцами, сотрудниками и постетителями клуба, впервые выносит на большой экран этот малоизвестный эпос о сексе и излишествах.
